Legacy Links

Successful Reentry Begins Before Release

Legacy Links is a reentry program designed for Black and Latino men, ages 18+, who are returning to the community after incarceration. Recognizing that a successful transition starts before release, we begin working with participants while they are still inside the Worcester House of Corrections.

Using a combination of assessments, we collaborate with participants to develop a participant-directed service plan tailored to their specific needs. This plan focuses on employment, personal development, and community reintegration, ensuring that each individual has a solid foundation for success upon release.

We Are a Community

Reentry is About More Than Just Employment

While securing a job is essential, research from the Annie E. Casey Foundation has shown that strong support networks play a greater role in successful reentry than employment alone (aecf.org). Without meaningful relationships and a sense of belonging, even those who find work often struggle to maintain stability and avoid recidivism.

That’s why Legacy Links is built on a foundation of community, connection, and brotherhood—ensuring participants have the guidance, encouragement, and accountability they need long after release.

We Are a brotherhood

Building Community & Purpose

We foster brotherhood and support networks through two key initiatives:

  • Leaving the Block – A monthly group outing designed to push participants outside their comfort zones. From deep-sea fishing to high ropes courses, these activities challenge and empower individuals, reinforcing personal growth and resilience.

  • Feeding the Soul – A monthly gathering that brings participants, staff, and community partners together at a local BIPOC restaurant. Over food and fellowship, discussions and activities reinforce life coaching lessons and connect participants to valuable community resources

Legacy Links isn’t just about reentry—it’s about restoring dignity, rebuilding connections, and redefining futures. By prioritizing strong relationships over quick job placements, we ensure that participants aren’t just returning to society—they’re returning with a sense of purpose, belonging, and support to truly succeed.

Why does Legacy Links only serve Black and Latino men?

The primary funding for Legacy Links is specifically designated for Black and Latino men due to statistical analysis that shows this population has not seen the same reduction in overdose deaths after release as other demographics. Research indicates that returning citizens face disproportionately high risks of substance use relapse, homelessness, and recidivism, and these risks are even more pronounced among Black and Latino men. Legacy Links was created to address this disparity head-on, providing tailored support that meets the unique needs of this community.

What kind of support does Legacy Links provide?

We work with participants to develop personalized reentry plans that include:
Workforce development & job readiness
Mental health & substance use support
Housing & financial stability resources
Mentorship & life coaching
Community reintegration support

Additionally, Legacy Links fosters a strong sense of brotherhood through initiatives like Leaving the Block, which challenges participants to step outside their comfort zones, and Feeding the Soul, which brings them together with staff and community partners for meals, mentorship, and personal development.

How does Legacy Links help with employment?

While employment is a critical part of reentry, research from the Annie E. Casey Foundation (aecf.org) has shown that strong support networks are even more important for long-term success than simply securing a job. Legacy Links takes a holistic approach to job readiness—helping participants not just find work, but develop the soft skills, mindset, and resilience needed to maintain employment and grow professionally.

How long does the program last?

The typical engagement period is 18 to 24 months, starting before release and continuing with intensive post-release support. Our goal is to reduce recidivism and ensure long-term stability for each participant.
